1979

With my birthday coming up, I started thinking about all the things that are different now, than say, when I was born. I am not 'old' by any means, but alot has changed. However, I'll get on that in another entry. So, here are a few things that happened in 1979, the lovely year that saw the birth of me.

The first case of AIDS is reported.

Saddam Hussein becomes the President of Iraq.

Margaret Thatcher becomes the Prime Minister of Britain.

The guerrilla war against the Soviets begins in Afghanistan.

American hostages are taken at the embassy in Iran.

Sex Pistols record DON'T GIVE ME NO LIP CHILD .

The Dukes of Hazzard premieres.

The Facts of Life, a spinoff of Diff'rent Strokes, premieres.

Joe Clark becomes Canada's sixteenth, and youngest ever, prime minister

Chris Haney and Scott Abbott invent Trivial Pursuit

Pioneer 11 becomes the first spacecraft to visit Saturn when it passes the planet at a distance of 21,000 km.

Pierre Trudeau attended the Juno ceremonies, the first time a Canadian Prime Minister did so.

Communist Cambodia under the government of Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge party was officially named Democratic Kampuchea.

James Eppolito, a member of the Gambino crime family, is photographed with First Lady Rosalynn Carter in recognition for his charity work in Manhattan.
