Late Night Thinking

I have shared this video clip from the movie "Up" a few times before. Maybe I've even posted it here on this blog before too, I can't remember. I come across it every once in awhile when I go through my blogs and Facebook links and whathaveyou, and every damn time, I'm crying two seconds after I click play.

My biggest fear in life, is waking up one day, sick and on the brink of death and knowing in my soul that I didn't do my very best to do and see all the things I wanted to do in life. The list of things I want to do and see before I kick the bucket gets longer every year. The more I live, the more I want to see and do. The list never ever gets shorter. So, I need to know that no matter what happens in life, I tried my best to have adventures, to have great friends, to learn and to teach, to do whatever it took to have a story to tell. A story that will surpass me, and my piddly little existence in this universe. With any luck, there will be many stories that will be told about me after I'm dead and gone, and those who are still around will be able to have a good chuckle at my expense once in awhile, if I don't do something to make them all hate me. Which I am capable of doing, I am sure.

The thing is though, that daily life is boring. It can be monotonous. On any given day, whether I'm in Europe, Cuba, Regina, or living in a 40 year old camper somewhere in the mountains, my days consist of generally the same things. Dishes. Cooking. Eye-Rolling. Dishes. Laugh with husband. Laundry. Dog walks. Swearing at dogs. Annoying husband. Watch dogs play. Dishes. That's just the way it is. You can't be having adventures all the time, and I am okay with that. But sometimes, I forget that I'm okay with that, and I get all down on myself, and I'm damn annoying when I'm down on myself, because there just isn't any reasoning with me. But then, I come across this video clip from a cute little movie, and everything rights itself again.

I remember that life isn't all about the big adventures and the big stories and the big dramatic horrible stuff, it's the little things that count too. It's my husband wanting to build a kitchen table, just so our great-grandchildren can brag that they now have the table that great grandpa built for great grandma. It's making perogies by myself in the kitchen as the dogs hump each others faces at my feet, and wondering if my grandma had to put up with that sort of thing while she made perogies. It's about family and friends and all the good and bad that comes along with having them around. It's about a puppy licking your tears away when you cry, and the incredibly bright moonlight that makes it bright enough for you to read outside, and the relief of finding that item you were looking for all over the house, and Tetris and having friends that will go ghost hunting with you and so many more little things that I could just go on for miles.

No wonder I don't ever get any sleep, what with all this thinking.

Liquor Store Run

I've been really missing my dad the past couple days for some reason, and then this song* came on in the car while I was running around doing errands this afternoon. Sheesh. Talk about an emotional liquor store run.

* I realize this video is about her mom, but to me, the lyrics applied to me and my dad.

Friday Night.

This is what I do on a Friday night when I'm home alone, drinking leftover beer from last weekend, there is nothing good on "Fridays Without Borders", and I can't find a mix tape that I had a dream about. I search out the mix tape on the Interweb. Thank you YouTube for my Belle and Sebastion fix.

Los Manlicious

I have been on a huge Hawksley kick this week, ever since Smyrish bought me his newest album Los Manlicious. His music seems to go along well with my ever changing moods, emotions and levels of motivation. I must say, this is his best album, in my opinion, since For Him and the Girls, so I've dragged that out of my collection as well, and put it back on heavy rotation.

I must say though, I feel for Mr. Workman. In comparing the album covers of his last 3 records, I noticed that he sure has lost his crazy, beautiful black hair mighty quickly. Poor guy. However, I am happy he's finally rockin' the baldness, and not hiding it under that ridiculous bandana/hat combo like he has been the past couple years.

I Am Aglow

I should hate you, and I did for awhile. I don't hate you anymore. I feel like I need you in my life. That same feeling I had when I met you, and told you I wanted to be your friend. And no, I never introduced myself as, "Anne". We've got too much in common, and now I know that you are just looking out for me, and want me to be happy. As of tonight, I know you want me to breed. But I've got to say, it's my party and I'll breed when me and Smyrish want to. ;)

I sometimes want to take your lips, and pinch them together so you can't speak, and force you to listen to what is being said. Sometimes, I wish that the mother of your child and I didn't have the issues that we have, because of you, and you and me. Sometimes, I just want you to drop off the face of the earth, so I don't have to deal with you, or memories of you. And then, there are nights like tonight, when I run into you accidentally, and I am so grateful.

I'm an odd girl. I like to think that if I liked someone, or even loved them, I can still be friends with them. I try not to hold grudges. This makes things awkward, sometimes, as you know.

I hope that one day, we can just hang out, without me having to worry about you getting in trouble for driving you home.

I feel like I should thank you, for making the end of my evening, feel like the end of a good movie. Or maybe I should just thank my stereo, for having the power to be a wonderful soundtrack to the goings on in my car. Either way, thank you, for tonight.

The Tax Man

Just once, I would like to get a big lump some of money back from the government. Just once.

I decided yesterday, that since I had all my forms, and some free time, I was going to sit down and do my taxes before I lost said forms in the abyss that is my bedroom. I file online, because I am really, really, bad at math, and it does all the adding and subtracting and multiplying of percentages for me. As I filled out each line, I could see my fate.

When I got to the end, I was getting a return of $15.95, the exact amount of money it would cost me to file it using UFile. I had a temper tantrum, and threw my T4's across the room. "Fuck them!", I yelled. "They can lick my arse." I decided they were not going to get any money from me, just so they could send me a cheque back in two months to cover that VISA expense.

I figured I might as well just fill it out on paper, and mail it, since at least that was free. Smyrish, the sweetheart that he is, went out and got me the tax package, and a bottle of wine to calm me down. I couldn't find a pen though, so I decided that I would re-do it all this morning.

Luckily, I checked my email before I went on the great pen search of 2008. Justin, over at the Nervous Axon, had given me a link to Studio Tax, and instructions on how to file online, for free. So I started all over again.

I realized that I had forgotten to claim the interest on my student loan, and my union dues from the Learning Centre. I was happy, I thought that would help. It didn't.

In the end, I owed 60 bucks. Not much, compared to other years. But dammit, it just doesn't seem fair. I pay extra every year, I work my arse off every damn day, and the government just doesn't seem to care. Friends of mine are uber-excited to get their taxes in, they will be getting thousands of dollars back, and have plans to buy furniture, go on vacations, etc. Makes me think I should go to University for the next ten years, and take some bullshit classes, like Greek Mythology or Women's Studies or Basket Weaving, just to get money back every spring. I'm jealous. I want to buy a new bed, or pay for my April vacation with Smyrish. But no, I'm going to have to use $60 that I don't have and give it to the government. Because they apparently don't have enough of my money yet. I probably wouldn't be as upset about this relatively small payment, if they hadn't already decided to cut funding to human services, or had given me a big fat raise this year.

All I wanted was enough money to buy my new eye glasses, and get them off of layaway.

So, fuck you Revenue Canada. Thanks for nothing.

Let's Go Dancing.

Yet Again, Seven Random Facts About Moi

My friend Wench tagged thy in a meme. Here we go!

The rules are as follows:

# Link to the person who tagged you
# Post the rules on your blog.
# Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
# Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
# Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged.

1. In my entire life, no matter where I have lived, my bedroom has never been clean for more that 4 minutes at a time. It most likely never will be.

2. After approximatley 45 seconds of watching "Scott Baio is 45, and Single", I decided it was the stupidest show I had ever seen, and Scott Baio was a whiny little slut. However, I got hooked, and I can't wait to watch "Scott Baio is 46..." when it premieres tomorrow night.

3. For the past four nights, I have been going on grand adventures with Hawksley Workman in my dreams. Most likely, it is because he has been all over the T.V, his new album is out, and he's coming to town again. I have dreamt about him twice before in life, and each time, I ended up breaking up with whoever I was dating within 24 hours. I don't blame Hawksley though, I am sure it was just a co-incidence. (Note to Smyrish: Those were sexy dreams though, and the ones this week haven't been even close to sexy, so I think we're ok. I think it just means we should go see him in March)

4. I prefer Shiraz, but when it comes right down to it, I enjoy all wine. Maybe a bit too much.

5. I have had the same pen pal, from Mauritius, for 15 years. We have tried to meet up many times, but it just hasn't worked out yet. Her life is so interesting, and different that mine, but at the same time, she thinks that my life is interesting and different too.

6. I am taking another train trip in April. I can't wait to get the heck outta dodge!

7. I have a soft spot for music videos that have people riding bicycles in them.

Oh, Happy Day.

What a great day.

I was actually mentally prepared for my 7:00 am call-in for work, so when I arrived seven hours early for my originally scheduled shift, I was in good spirits. I found someone to work the remaining 6 hours of my would-have-been 18 hour shift, and headed home to pound a Kokanee.

After a couple of quick phone calls to the girls, I called Smyrish, and he said he wanted to spend some money on me to take me for supper. How could I say no? When I went to pick him up, he said we had to make a quick stop on the way, and it was a surprise. I hate surprises, you never know if it will be good, or bad, and they cause me anxiety. ( "Surprise! Here's a million dollars!", or "Surprise! We're in the middle of nowhere, and now you must die!")

However, this surprise was abso-fucking-lutely wonderful:

( I think I will name her Gigi )

He bought me a new sewing machine!!!! Yippee!! Isn't she beautiful???

After I gave him a smooch, we headed off for supper, where I enjoyed the second best sandwich I have ever had in my life, the best one being the corned beef sandwich I had when I was in Montreal last, at Ben's Deli.

( I promise, it looked much better than these leftovers do.)

After supper, it was off to Home Depot where I sat in my dream bath tub, a quick visit with Film Star at the Shopper's Drug Mart, and then back to Smyrish's place to hang out and listen to the new Radiohead album, read catalogues, and look at old photos.

And alas, I am home. About to spend the first night in forever, alone in my bed. (With the exception of those nights where Smyrish couldn't stand my snoring.) I am going to play some scrabble, watch the rest of "Hello, Dolly", hug Gigi, and hopefully get a good nights sleep, with dreams full of Barbara Streisand sung show tunes.

Xmas Eve in the Drunk Tank

I know it's not Xmas Eve yet, but I may not have a chance to post again. This is my favorite Xmas song, hands down.

Have a good holiday, readers. Cheers!

Nirvana

Blah. I worked for 13 hours today, so all you get is a video. This song has been in my head all day. I am pretty okay with that though, because yesterday all that was running through my head was that damn circus song.

Happy Friday everyone. I'm going to drink wine, and then go to bed.

Thinking of the Palinode and Das Schmutz

Not much to say today. Can't think of much else except The Palinode's back surgery. Here's hoping all goes well, and he's back in tip-top shape and upright again in two shakes of a lambs tail.
