Grace in Small Things #20

1. Being the supper guinea pig, and getting to test out Smyrish's new lentil/rice/turkey bacon creation. YUMMY!

2. Heading out to The Pub after supper, and seeing the smiling faces of my lovely lady friends, and the Palinode.

3. Hanging with Schmutzie. We always stay out way too late, and drink way too much, and have a great time doing what we do.

4. Listening to my brother talk about his new girlfriend, and how wonderful she is, and how happy he is when he's with her. He made me think that maybe its okay that he is dating my sister-in-law, which in turn, makes him my brother-in-law.

5. Coming home to Smyrish with a bag of Burger King, and laying on the couch together to watch The Wonder Years.

6. Learning that while I was out at The Pub, Smyrish took in my new bicycle with the blown tire, and brought home a whole new bike, tires intact.

Life is good right now.

Grey Cup! Woot!

In one hour, I'll be down at The Pub fighting for a seat, so I can sit and watch the 'Riders kick some 'Bomber ass with my friends. Thus, instead of an entry, I am sharing a forward that I got from six different people this weekend. Enjoy!

Twas The Night Before Grey Cup

Twas the night before Grey Cup, and all through the
Dome,
Not a creature was stirring, but the gophers back
home.
The players were nestled and snug in their beds,
While visions of Grey Cup Rings danced in their heads.

When out on the field, there arose such a clatter,
Kent sprang from his bed to see what was the matter,
Away to his window, he flew like a flash,
Threw aside the Green Curtains, and Silky White Sash.

And what did he see with his wondering eye?
But a sea of Green Revelers and a furry brown guy.
“That looks like Dominguez, and Flick and Fantuz!”
“Its way after curfew! Do they want us to lose??”

So, out of his room and down to the field,
Coach Austin stormed out with a fury to wield.
As he went through the tunnel, the ground shook with a
beat,
From the dancing and prancing of ten thousand feet.

“Hey Coach,” cried a voice, “Whatcha doing down here?”
It was Szarka and Schultz, and they were handing out
beer!
Chucky and Chick were grilling up Dogs,
With Burgers being served by O’Day and the Hogs.

Crandall cooked Hot Wings, Joseph grilled steak,
While Cates, Holmes, and Hughes helped Makowsky serve
cake.
“This is nuts!” Austin shouted, “It’s one-thirty AM!”
“I expected some revelry, but this is mayhem!”

Eric Tillman tapped Austin, “ You’re not Eagle Keys -”
“But I’m not Berry, or Gotta, or Gregory * so PLEASE!”
“You’re all waddling around here like Wascana geese!”
“And in need of a dance coach like Donald Narcisse.”

“Now, you’ve all had your fun, so back to your rooms.”
But then Austin’s nose picked up the barbecue fumes.
Then Green Is The Color rang out through the air,
As Congi and Boreham played Banjos with flair.

On Davis, on Johnson, on Coach Ritchie Hall,
Even old Alex Smith flashed a smile after all,
On Lloyd, on McCullough, on Hunt and on Perry,
On Kornegay, Frazier, and yes, even Kerry.

The skydome then filled with a soft greenish glow,
And the whole Rider Nation set poised for a show.
An S and a wheat sheaf then formed in the air,
And a smile took the place of Coach Kent Austin’s
glare.

Then everyone there, the players, the fans,
They formed a big circle by all holding hands,
Then right in the centre appeared the Grey Cup,
Which Fairholm and Ridway and Elgaard picked up.

They handed it over to Ritchie and Kent,
Who called Kerry and Eddie, and off the Cup went.
It was passed round the field, past heroes to present,
While Gainer dug holes for the Blue Bomber Pheasants.

That music was heard coast to coast people say
And they say Rider Pride grew three sizes that day.
Everyone left there dreaming of Blue Bomber doom.
And they sent all the Banjos to Troy Westwood’s Room.

Good Times and Procrastination

I'm not kidding, this summer really has been kicking royal ass. It is only half-over and I have already added it to my list of "Greatest Summer's Ever" in the ol' memory bank. However, it has apparently kicked my ass a bit as well, or possibly, it was just the past weekend of fun and games and drinking and laughing and not sleeping out at The Lake that did me in.

I actually stayed home tonight, for the second time in a month. I planned for it all day Monday. I fought the urge to head to The Pub after work today, all day. It almost killed me, not to go and laugh and drink with friends that I haven't seen since last week when I headed out camping. I had good intentions. I was going to go home after work, finish unloading and putting away my camping gear, and sit down and work my ass off all night at the sewing machine, and get ready for the Folk Festival this coming weekend.

I did come home after work. I cracked a leftover camping beer and headed to my bedroom. I surfed the InterWeb, and planned my evening. Then I fell asleep.

Five hours later, I awoke to the sounds of my stomach growling, and Nancy Grace and her posse debating whether Britney Spears should lose custody of her children or not, given her tendencies to feed her sons Doritos and soda pop. I rolled over, and fought the urge to just keep on sleeping until morning, forcing myself to wake up and do something productive.

Productivity in the wee hours of the morning has so far consisted of eating a tuna sandwich, loading the dishwasher with dirty camping dishes and driving 2 blocks to the Petro-Can to buy cigarettes, because I was too lazy to walk. None of these activities are helping me get prepared for the Folk Fest. Sheesh.

The downside to having the best summer ever, is the fact that my work, sewing and otherwise, is really cutting into my party time. I have become lazy and somewhat irresponsible, and only care about having fun.

And my goodness, I have no problem with that. I haven't been this happy with myself, and with my life, in years, if ever. All this fun, and all my good times with my wonderful gaggle of friends, has boosted my confidence, and has basically obliterated all the stress of the months prior, and I couldn't be happier at this point in time.

I'll get my butt in gear, and I will be ready for the weekend, because I'm me, and I work better under intense pressure. And as soon as this festival is over, I'm going back to being the big bad party animal, because summer is only so long, and I'm not going to waste a single moment of it.

Not only is summer too short, but so is life, so you might as well enjoy the fuck out of it.

The Golden Dogs!!!

I had been looking forward to this show for months. Well, ever since the last time they were going to play at The Pub, and they were sadly sent away, for reasons I will not discuss here.

But luckily, fences were mended, and they were asked to come back and play, and they accepted!

The Golden Dogs put on the best show The Pub has seen since Priestess played there years ago, in my opinion. High energy, catchy Sloan-like beats, a sexy talented lady banging on her keyboard and classic rock guitar riffs kept everyone singing and dancing and bopping around. I couldn't stop frickin' smiling and moving from the second they went on, and considering I was almost falling asleep on the patio after a day at the beach, that says a lot.

I loved it so much, I am now considering driving all the way to Ness, just to see them play again this weekend.....but if that doesn't pan out, I am just going to cross my fingers, and hope that they had as much fun as the crowd had, and return to The Pub sooner than later.

These kids are going to be big, and when they are, I'll be first in line to actually pay for a ticket.

Keep on rockin' in the free world, Golden Dogs!!
